Introducing Evri for Kindle Fire [Video]

Last year we launched Evri for iPad, the first topic-based news discovery app for iPad. And about three days later we started hearing the question, “When are you guys coming to Android?” Honestly, we just didn’t know. We do want to be on as many devices as possible. And we built the core of our application experience in HTML/CSS with that goal in mind, minimizing the amount of platform-specific code wherever we could.

But before we could commit to anything we needed to make sure that we could deliver a great user experience on a new device. Unfortunately, the Android devices we looked at and prototyped against just weren’t set up to deliver that experience. Our animations were jerky, scrolling wasn’t smooth, and transitions were often unpredictable.

Then we got our hands on the Kindle Fire. The app experience — powered by the Amazon Silk browser — looked great. And it didn’t hurt that the Kindle Fire was selling like hotcakes; we obviously weren’t the only ones who thought the combination of price point and functionality was too good to pass up. So we made a New Year’s resolution and rolled up our sleeves to get to work on Evri for Kindle Fire.

Now we’re thrilled to announce that the app is live in the Amazon Marketplace, sporting the same great features as its iPad cousin, including:

  • Trending stories – Evri surfaces the hottest stories each day, all organized by category in a visually rich, easy-to-use interface.
  • Topic search – From Aerospace to Yoga, search for topics that interest you and quickly get the focused, relevant news articles you’re looking for.
  • Personalization – Don’t care much about Business or Sports, but always want Knitting and Graphic Design news to be just one tap away? You can do that. Or maybe you want to drop Top News and read the latest about Comic Books and Video Games instead. That’s fine too; we won’t judge you.

If you’re one of the millions like us who fell in love with the Kindle Fire, this is the news reader you’ve been waiting for. Grab it here today! After you’ve had a chance to play with it a bit, please let us know what you think. You can email us at feedback@evri.com, drop by our Facebook page, or follow us on Twitter. We read all our messages (even the spammy ones).
